Occupied since Roman times, Thorame was in the 5th century the seat of a short-lived bishopric. Thorame-Basse preserves a rich heritage: the tower of Piégut (14th century), the chapel of Notre-Dame (15th century) and the chapel of Saint-Thomas (13th century) with listed frescoes, distributed between the village and its hamlets.
